Adjustment of a gap in bearings of forward wheels

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Mark with paint the provision of a forward wheel concerning a nave. Thanks to it the balanced wheel can be established easily on the former place. Weaken bolts of fastening of a wheel on the car standing on the earth. Then lift a forward part of the car and remove a forward wheel.

2. Screw 1 bolt of fastening of a wheel in a carving opening (2) opposite to the lock screw (1) and tighten by hand. It you will record a brake disk on a wheel nave.

3. Carefully wring out the screw-driver of a block of a disk brake from a brake disk.
4. Remove a cap of a nave (3) by means of a stripper or the rubber hammer. For this purpose turn a wheel and tap a cap the hammer so that it fell.

5. Check a gap in bearings, having strongly pulled and having pressed on a flange. Before each measurement several times turn a nave.

6. The axial gap in the bearing is measured in auto repair shop by means of the indicator (1) and the holder (2). On the indicator establish 2 mm of a preliminary tightness. The required value of an axial gap: 0.01 - 0.02 mm.

In the course of measurement to rotate a nave of a wheel it is not allowed.

Adjustment

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Weaken the screw (1) of a cutting nut (2).

2. Tighten a cutting nut at simultaneous rotation of a nave so that the nave could not rotate. After that turn off in the opposite direction a tightening nut on one third of a turn and, striking with the plastic hammer an axis of a rotary fist (3), remove stress.
3. Repeat measurement by the indicator and if necessary again adjust a gap.
4. Mercedes-Benz carries out check of gaps in bearings by means of the indicator. In practice the gap in bearings is regulated correctly if the disk behind a cutting nut is displaced hardly, that is demands for this application of a certain effort. Otherwise it is necessary to tighten or weaken a cutting nut.
5. Tighten the screw of a cutting nut the moment of 8 Nanometers and again check a gap in the bearing.
6. Fill a nave cap with high-temperature bearing lubricant. The volume of oil makes 15 g.
7. Establish a nave cap into place by means of the rubber hammer. Use for this purpose a suitable pipe that the cap rose exactly. Prevention: If the cap is deformed, replace it as its leakage can lead to hit in the moisture bearing that in turn will reduce bearing service life.
8. Turn out a nave bolt at a brake disk.
9. Establish a forward wheel into place so that earlier put tags coincided. Screw bolts of fastening of a wheel. Lower the car on wheels and tighten bolts cross-wise the moment of 110 Nanometers.
10. Several times press a brake pedal that brake shoes were established.
